WALHT

We Are Learning How To:
Compare and Contrast: We have been learning another SOLO taxonomy thinking tool which is to compare and contrast. Compare means the same and contrast means different. We were pretty clever when we did this with the sun and the moon.

We Are Learning How To:
Define a sequence and a cycle: We have been beginning to use a SOLO taxonomy learning tool, called a Define Map, to help us with our thinking and understanding. Our concept this term is cycles. We are looking at the sun and moon. We need to understand the difference between a sequence and a cycle before we can dig deeper and understand how they are connected. We were each given a picture and needed to decide with our buddy whether it was a sequence or not (same thing when we did the cycle define map). We also needed to say why. Next those who thought they had a sequence were aloud to put their picture onto the coloured paper. Those who thought they didn't put their picture onto the carpet. We then discussed whether or not we agreed with everyone's choices. Pictures could be moved if the reason was justified and valid. There are more define maps on our classroom wall - come on in and check them out.

We Are Learning How To:
Form our letters correctly: Each day when we do our printing we have a different focus. Day 1 - we focus on the right shape. Day 2 - we focus on the right size. Day 3 - we focus on the letter sitting on the line. Day 4 - we focus on the right shape, size and letters sitting on the line. We get one, two or three stickers depending on how well we form our letters. To get three stickers we need our names, letters and the word we practice to be close to 100% perfect. The elusive 3 stickers have been achieved!!

And some more children have achieved 3 stickers

We Are Learning How To:
Make doubles to 10: To make doubles we need to add the same number together e.g. 1+1, 3+3. We can make doubles to 5 by ourselves using our hands.

Double 3                            Double 5

Double 1                          Double 2

Double 4

To make doubles for the numbers 6-10 with our fingers, we need a friend to help us.

Double 7                        Double 6

We Are Learning How To:

Make a 3D shape: We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes as part of our maths this term. We are able to tell the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. Earlier this term we made a house using 2D shapes. This week we had a go at making a 3D shape - a triangular prism. First we had to make sure we had finished all the work we had started during the week. Once we had done this we were given our net (outline) for the shape to colour and cut.

Then we had to fold along all of the solid black lines.
Perseverance came into play here. Once we did this, we could start glueing the sides together to make the prism.

Great job! What a fabulous looking triangular prism!

We Are Learning How To:

Do a front support...Bottoms down

Back support...Straight as a rod

Backwards Roll...Into our tuck, hands flat & up by our shoulders

Support ourselves on the bar & do a front flip (without letting go of the bar)...Wow! Super straight legs!

We Are Learning How To:

Count back from the biggest number: We need to hold the biggest number in our heads and start counting back from the number before.

We Are Learning How To:

Identify what God made and what people make: We need to remember the Creation Story which tells us all the things God made. Then we need to look for things that are different to this.

Take photos with the i-pads. We need to remember that what we see on the screen is what we get. So if we have half a face that is what the photo will be. We need to remember to hold the i-pad still. Otherwise the photos will be all blurry. We need to remember to hold the i-pad carefully with both hands so it doesn't drop onto the ground. Here are some of our attempts - we did a pretty good job!

We  Are  Learning  How  To:

Publish our story writing. We need to remember to do our tidiest handwriting, ask for a rubber if we make a mistake, leave clear spaces between our words, copy the words correctly and remember what word we are on so our published work makes sense. Phew!

Land Safely to prevent broken bones. If we land on our hands and knees - our fingers need to be facing away from our bodies.

If we continue falling towards the ground, we need to turn our heads - so we don't break our chin or nose. Our elbows will bend if our fingers are facing away from our bodies.

If we land on our hands and bottoms, our fingers need to face towards our bottoms - so our elbows bend if we continue falling backwards.
