Week 4 - Term 4

WOW! What an amazing game & early start to the day!

All Saints / All Souls Liturgy - Monday 10am in the school hall. All friends and family are welcome to join us. Please note the venue has changed.

Swimming - Every day this week. Please bring your togs, towel and a plastic bag each day to school. If you are not swimming for medical reasons, please bring a note from mum and dad.

Library - Wednesday. Bring your book back from last week so you can get a new one.

Spelling Tests - Copies will be placed into your child's homework/poem books this week. I was very pleased with the results.

Grandparents/Grandfriends Mass - Friday 9:15am in the church. All friends, family, grandparents & grandfriends are welcome to come and join us in our celebrations. Following Mass, grandparents/grandfriends & family will have the opportunity to come back to school and have a look around their grandchild's class (or classrooms if more than one grandchild at school). After this, there is a shared morning tea on the field for everyone. You are all welcome to stay for this.

End of Year Testing - Begins this week. As testing for reading and maths is individual, our normal programmes will be disrupted. Reading this week will consist of seen texts and new poems.

Rosary - What a fantastic job the junior children did with our Rosary this week. You were all very sensible and the children who had jobs did very well.

China Day Activities - photos will follow shortly. My devices are sulking and not talking to each other. As soon as they have finished sulking I'll put some up. The children had a great time experiencing different aspects of Chinese culture and life.

Black Out Day - 30th October

There is another black out day at school tomorrow to support the All Blacks. Children & staff can wear black mufti to school. Week 3 - A short week

I hope you are all enjoying your Monday off - hopefully the weather stays fine.

No swimming this week.

Uniforms - All children are expected to be in full summer uniform from Tuesday. This includes your blue school hat. From this week no hat = no play. Girls - please remember if your hair is shoulder length or longer it needs to be tied up. Girls - please remember you are not allowed to wear nail polish at school.

Library - Wednesday. Remember to bring your book back so you can get a new one.

Rosary - Thursday 8:45am. The junior children are leading the rosary this week. All friends and family are welcome to come along. The rosary is in the school hall.

Spelling Tests - This week we will be doing our spelling tests for Essential Lists 1-3. There are some children who will also be given List 4.

Discover China Day - Friday. The whole school will be participating in activities during the day at different times. There are some Mandarin Language speakers coming to our school to assist with this. If you are able to help on Friday morning, please let Mrs Cato know via email on annec@stmarysrotorua.school.nz or contact her at school.

Golden Time Photos - We were lucky enough to have our Golden Time in the pool on Friday. Room 6 came to join us which was just awesome! Their teacher even got in the pool - she's much braver than me! There may have been some grumpy children after school on Friday with lots of lunch left over. Some of us take a very very very long time to get changed which doesn't leave much time for eating - especially when assembly starts very soon after we finish swimming. Here are some of the photos...

Week 2 - Term 4

Swimming - It's our turn this week. Please bring your togs, towel and a plastic bag or swimming bag each day to school. If you are not swimming because you are sick, please bring a note from mum & dad.

Golden Time - Fun in the Pool. Our swimming time is the same time as Golden Time so we are going to have some fun in the pool with some balloons, the hose and noodles.

Holiday Reading Logs - WooHoo!! - 17 holiday reading logs have been returned so far out of a possible 20. All pictures have been added to the Holiday Reading Log Wall of Fame. If you haven't returned your holiday reading log yet you have until Wednesday to do so. If you have lost your sheet, just put down the books you read on a piece of paper with your name and room number at the top. There is a special class treat for all those children who bring their reading logs back.

HATS - COMPULSORY THIS TERM. Thank you to all those who have had their hats at school last week. If you didn't bring your hat to school each day, please remember to do so this week. No hat will mean no play.

Library - Wednesday. Bring back last weeks book so you can get a new one.

Rosary - Wednesday 8:45am in the hall. Parents, friends & family are welcome to attend. The rosary this week is being led by the senior team. The junior children will be leading the rosary in week 3.

Week 1 - Term 4

WOW! Haven't the holidays just flown by! I hope you have had a safe and enjoyable time with your children and family. I am looking forward to seeing you all again.

HATS!  HATS!  HATS!  HATS!  HATS! - ARE COMPULSORY THIS TERM!! Please make sure your child's hat is named and in their bag each day. 100+ children have the same sized hat as your child.

Summer Uniform - It's time to wear your summer uniforms again. Please make sure everything is clearly named. 100+ children have the same size/s as your child.

Swimming - Even Weeks. Swimming for us this term will be in even weeks. So we will swim in weeks 2, 4, 6 & 8.

Holiday Reading Logs - Remember to bring your holiday reading logs in this week. We got 90% of our class returning their logs after the last holidays. That means 2 children did not return their reading logs. This term I would like 100% returned. There will be a couple of incentives to return your holiday reading logs - more info later.

Class Reading Logs - Remember to fill in these also and show me when you have completed them. The books you have put on your Holiday Reading Logs can also be put in your class reading logs. Just about everyone has completed 100 nights reading this year. Some are even close to completing 200 nights reading!!

Assembly - Photos to come soon. I will show the children the video in class.

Reports - There is a change to the way reporting is now done for the junior school children. In the junior school (yr1-3), reports will now be issued on anniversary dates. These can differ slightly from your child's age, depending on when your child started school. The anniversary dates we will be reporting on are 20wks (6 months at school), 40wks (1 year at school), 60wks (18 months at school), 80wks (2 years at school), 100wks (30 months at school) & 120wks (3 years at school). The reports for 40wks and 80wks will also be accompanied by a parent interview to discuss your child's progress.
