Week 7 - Term 3

What a cool way to start our week with rainbow cupcakes!!!!

Birthday of Mary Mass - Friday 9am in the church. All friends and family are welcome to come and celebrate with us.

Golden Time - Wheels Day. On Friday for Golden Time the children have voted for wheels day. If your child is bringing their bike to school, they also need to bring their helmet. NO helmet will result in not being able to ride their bike. Children are welcome to bring bikes, scooters, skateboards etc for wheels day.

Father's Day Gifts - $3. Available from Wednesday - Friday at lunchtime in the hall foyer.

Library - Wednesday. Bring your old book back so you can get a new one.

Dunk the Teacher - The results are in! Thank you to all the children & parents who donated to a worthy cause (the NZ cancer society). We raised just over $186.00 - a great effort! Every teacher had at least one vote.  In 4th place - Mrs Todd, 3rd place - Mr Bach, 2nd place - Mr Volschenk and 1st place (by a landslide) - Mr Macmillan!!!!! Sadly he was away on Friday but we have been assured the dunking will take place this week - photos to come when it happens.

Shadows - as part of our topic study this term, we have begun looking at shadows this week. We have been outside at different times of the day and had our photos taken to see if the shadows change or stay the same. We have done funny poses to see what our shadow would do - it's a bit of a copy cat. We looked for some other things that made different shadows. Providing the weather plays nicely this week (it's not looking to good for the start of the week) we will look at shadows some more.

Week 6 - Term 3

CONGRATULATIONS 100 Nights Reading - Congratulations to Thennesson and Alona who have completed 100 nights reading this year. Well done! Keep up the great work. I wonder who will be next?

School Photos - Monday. Please make sure you have - brushed your hair, cleaned your teeth, washed your face, have a clean & tidy uniform and bring your best smile to school. Polar fleeces are not to be worn in school photos. If your child has a school jumper, please get them to wear it to school (they can still wear their polar fleece to school as well if it is cold). If your child does not have a school jumper, please don't panic - we have spares at school for the photos. Photos are usually taken in the first block of the day. If you want to order photos and you haven't yet given your money and form in, please take both to the office BEFORE school starts.

Maths Evening - Wednesday 5:15pm - 6:00pm in Room 10. A notice was sent home with your child on Friday - please check their bookbags. For those children who are away they will get one on Monday. Please complete the slip at the bottom of the notice and return it to school as soon as possible. Please note that the session is intended for parents/caregivers and we are unable to provide child minding. The night is designed to give you some practical ideas on how to help your child at home with their mathematics.

Library - Wednesday. Bring your old book back so you can get a new one.

Author Photos - Stacy Gregg. If you haven't already, have a look at the photos below from our author visit. Ask you child what they remember about each photo and about other things the author said. She is an amazing lady with some fascinating stories.

WALHT - check out some of the new learning on our WALHT page.

Stacy Gregg Visit

WOW! How lucky were we today! The famous author Stacy Gregg (who has won the NZ Book Awards Children's Choice for Junior Fiction twice) came to see us at school. What a lovely lady. She had many fascinating things to tell us. Her latest book, Girl Who Rode the Wind, is based on a real princess (Princess Haya of Jordan) and set in World War 2. Stacy Gregg even read us the first chapter of her new book!

CONGRATULATIONS - 100 Nights Reading. Congratulations to Olivia who has completed 100 nights reading this year. Well done! Keep up the great work. I wonder who will be next?

Spelling Tests - WOW! Several children in our class made huge progress with their spelling. And the printing was amazing & clear. Copies of the tests will be put into your child's poem/homework books this week. I still need to do List 4 with some children - I am hoping to squeeze this in this week. To help your child with their spelling, aim for 5 words a week.

Library - Wednesday. Bring your book back so you can get a new one this week.

Assumption Liturgy - Friday 10am in the school hall. All parents/friends/family are welcome to join us for this liturgy.

Teacher Only Day - Monday 17th August (Monday week). There will be no school on this day. Please make alternative arrangements for your child. MaryAnne's details are in last week's newsletter if you need assistance for the day.

Mary MacKillop Feast Day - What an amazing day we had on Friday. The children had a blast and were very well behaved. They participated in activities as a class and then of their choice. I am having some issues getting the photos to play nicely so in the meantime please enjoy this photoslide that Mrs Dunkley has put together.
